A highly disenchanted Peru goes to the polls. For the last decade Peru has been rocked by a coup attempt, impeachments, corruption trials and an colossal wave of violent crime.

As a plurality of those Peruvians not completely disenchanted with the prospect of voting look likely to elect either an authoritarian strongman through Raphael Aliaga or an authoritarian strongwoman in Keiko Fujimori, how have political institutions failed the Peruvian people to get to this point?
